Friends

In a few weeks I am going to host a Halloween party. Not with a lot of people, but just with my old friend group from high school. I am still in regular contact with them, and I try to hang out with them as much as new schedules all allow. We were very tight in high school, which is why we are still so close. I have also made new friends in college, and sometimes I find it hard to balance the two groups. I text and call my old friends regularly, and I see my college friends in person all the time on campus. This situation makes me wonder what other people go through when they start college.

I know that a lot of people tend to lose contact with their high school friends. I also know that it depends on the individual person as far as what ends up happening overall. My mom was closer with her college friend group, as was my dad, but my brother and I are closer with our high school friend groups and make regular efforts to see them and contact them. I have a group of six close friends including me that all make regular efforts to talk to each other and see each other. Most of them are at JJC, which is not far from me, so it makes it even easier to stay close with them.

As I make new friends in college, it makes me think about how people balance their time out enough to stay in contact with old friends while regularly seeing new ones. With the amount of school work already given to students, it can be hard to find much free time in the first place. Adding in a social aspect to schedules makes it even harder. I think this is why so many people lose contact over time. Still though, I think that it is very important to balance both out.
