Documentary Guided Reflection

 1) What specific scene go to you? Describe and explain how it moved you.      The scene that got to me the most throughout Dinosaur 13 was at the very beginning when the research team actually found Sue, the T-Rex fossil. I found it amazing that Susan Hendrickson just happened to stumble upon a T-Rex skeleton when she got lost out at the site. I was fascinated by all the work the research team had to put in to remove the fossil from the hillside. I think it is incredible that the largest T-Rex fossil ever found was a complete accident that took 17 days to remove.  2) What surprised you? Why do you think it caught you off guard?     I was surprised that one of the Black Hills Institute research team members was originally facing a possible prison sentence that would be longer than the sentence given to a specific serial killer. This caught me off guard because while the charges were dropped, it doesn't make sense that a serial killer who took human liv...

Visual Literacy

Image
While reading through Chapter 10, I thought it was interesting to see how visual literacy can impact history through photographs. It is interesting to think about all the various photos taken of people over the centuries, and consider why the photo was actually taken and who it was of. I tend to overlook the deeper meanings when I look at pictures in history books and textbooks. It will be fascinating to start considering photos in more depth now as I look at them. I think it's also incredible that historians are reanalyzing many photographs from history and considering things such as who was in the picture, who took the picture, when the picture was taken, where it was taken, and more. I am extremely fascinated with history, and I love trying to figure out the deeper meanings of historical events. I think it is very cool how visual literacy plays a role in it.

Challenges

Ever since starting college, I have definitely been facing many new challenges that I have never had to deal with. I am trying to make transitions in my daily routine, and I am learning how to manage my time differently now. It has been a little difficult for me to learn new time management skills since starting here, but I have been getting the hang of it. It has also been hard for me to be away from home. I am so used to coming home every night, and it is hard for me to not see my family every day anymore. One of the biggest challenges I have faced is being without my old friends. I have made new friends, but I have a very close connection to my long lasting group of friends that have been with me for years. None of my friends are that far away, but it has been a little hard on me to see them less than I normally do.

Procrastination Microtheme

I struggled for a while to pick something to write about for my microtheme. I eventually picked procrastination, but I am still struggling to write the paper. I am still very used to the high school style of writing papers, and it is hard for me to make the transition to this new style of writing. It is also hard for me to not base what I am writing on factual evidence because I am very used to researching everything. I chose procrastination because sometimes I struggle with that problem in my day to day life. I had narrowed it down to a few issues I commonly have, but this seemed the easiest for other people to relate to.
