What I Learned about the Library

Last week the class spent the entirety of the period in a room in the library to learn about researching. While I was not able to stay for the entire class, I was able to stay for the first hour. During that hour I feel that I learned a lot. I am very familiar with basic researching. Not only did I do it all the time in high school and even before, but I love researching my own topics on my own time outside of school. I get curious about random topics, and I love searching for the answers in books and on the internet. I started picking up on how to tell which sources were more credible than others. I even researched how to properly research several times to pick up on more techniques and skills. Still, I was not aware of everything we learned in the library that day and I am glad I was able to hear it.

First of all, I learned new techniques about searching for the most credible sources. I also learned that those most credible sources will always be accepted by professors throughout college, but sources outside of that will either be accepted or turned down depending on the professor. I think that is a great thing to be aware of because I have already been assigned several projects, several papers, and even a presentation I had to give with a group in front of my class. So far I have not used all of those most credible sources on my assignments, and I have been lucky that my professors have not cared about that. However, I am happy that I was able to learn about this in the library with my class rather than learning the hard way down the road.

Second of all, I have actually not spent that much time in the library this semester, and honestly did not realize how big of a tool it actually was. I will happily carry that forward with me and use that to my advantage now that I know. There will definitely be many occasions throughout the rest of my time in college that I want to use those resources, and I am glad that I know how to access them now.
